"Holding this book in your hand, sinking back in your soft armchair, you will say to yourself: perhaps it will amuse me. And after you have read this story of great misfortunes, you will no doubt dine well, blaming the author for your own insensitivity, accusing him of wild exaggeration and flights of fancy. But rest assured: this tragedy is not a fiction. All is true."

Interview Me/You! [Jun. 16th, 2008|08:21 pm]
[Tags|]
[tunes |Duran Duran - Skin Divers]

I was interviewed by [info]buncha_cruncha... anyone who wants to be interviewed, leave a comment! :)

Here are the rules:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions of a personal nature.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.

1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I'm not sure of the location yet, but I know I want a place that is quite warm all year round. I want to live in a bike-friendly place, where there are local markets, greenery everywhere, everything is built and run very environmentally-conscious... I want to live in a place that is not conservative, because abortion rights, homosexual rights, equality for men and women, races, etc, is all very important to me. Anyway want to tell me where that is? (I also would not live in the U.S., or any place where guns are allowed)

2. What was your first job? Did you like it?
My first job was working as an assistant for my yoga teacher. She was getting her ground starting up a yoga practice, and I was helping with her accounting, organization, calling people, etc. It was pretty easy, although it made me realize that 1. I hated organizing shit that wasn't my own, and 2. I hated having my 'bosses' or superiors hovering over my every move.

3. What's one great memory you have from childhood?
I feel like they are all jumbled into one 'my childhood memory'. But I guess I'd have to choose any moment I was exploring the water and greenery at my cottage, or the forests, fields and gardens of my farm (both of which I no longer have, due to deaths in the family, will stuff, but I am still able to visit the cottage occasionally). I had such a magical time at both those places, where nothing bad ever seemed to happen, and I rarely saw my parents. It's odd, but of all my happy childhood memories, none include my parents, either because they were not present, or the memories were not exceptionally happy. Anyway.

4. What is one talent you wish you had?
I wish I had creative tendencies, such as drawing, painting, and creating anything really. I also wish I had been put into more competitive sports programs, so that I could develop my skills further. But then maybe I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much, I don't know.

5. What is the most expensive thing you've ever bought?
Uhm... probably my camera, which was like a couple hundred bucks. I used to go on a lot of shopping sprees, buying a lot of clothes. But I stopped doing that maybe 4-5 years ago.

So yeah, get yo'selves INTERVIEWED!!!

macbook [Jun. 2nd, 2008|08:48 pm]

[tunes |Augustana - 20 Years]

When I first got this laptop (an Acer Aspire 5570 14" one), I remember mentioning to my mother that my next laptop would be an MacBook. I imagined that to be several years down the line, once I had finished my bachelors.

In any case, a couple days ago she told me she was going to use her laptop for a project she's working on (database of arrythmia patients in a study, or something), so she would take my laptop for herself and I could get the MacBook, if I wanted.

So, after thoughtful consideration - is it worth it to get an Apple computer when I am not an avid gamer, video-creator, or digital artist? In the end, I decided to get one, because if I never experience Apple's OS, then I won't know or understand Microsoft's marginal competition. It's a test project, I guess. I got the white one, obviously. I'm not spending an extra ridiculous 300$ for the black version. HULLO, stupid.

So tell me: What's good/bad about an Apple computer, or the MacBook in particular? What was your experience transitioning btwn Microsoft to Apple? Anything I should know?

I finally read a book this year worth 10/10 "points". It was everything I could imagine: philosophical, touching, full of love and consideration. It was "The Little Prince" (Le Petit Prince) by Antoine de Saint Exupery. I've read 21 books so far this year, and that was the absolute best by far. I had found an old, tattered, chewed-by-a-bunny copy in my basement which my mother had since she was little. I devoured it on a sunny day last week. I highly recommend it. :)

What are your favourite books, either of all time or lately?

I'm looking for interesting reading material, as I seem to be gobbling books up lately. I'm currently reading Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen - how I could not have read that earlier in my life, I do not know - and I am utterly in love with the storyline, the authour, and of course Elizabeth, Jane, Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bingley, and even foolish Lydia.

I've read 14 books since 2008 began, and I'm not sure whether that is a lot or a shameful number.

So tell me... how much do you read, where are your 'reading spots', favourite novels or other reading material (biographies, history textbooks, self-help books... the list goes on)??

2. Italicize the names of guys you might shag after a little persuasion.
3. Leave the guys who don't do anything for you alone.
4. Put a question mark after the guys you've never heard of.
5. Strike the guys you wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole.
6. ADD THREE OF YOUR OWN AT THE END
